Privacy Policy

HomeVault ("we", "the app") is a home inventory app that helps a household track the items they own, manage shopping lists, and get reminders. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can delete it.

Information we collect

  • Account information — the email address and password you use to create your household account, your household name, and (optionally) a home address and phone number you choose to enter.
  • Household profiles — the names, relationships, profile photos (optional) and screen PINs of the family members you add to your household.
  • Inventory content — the items, quantities, prices, purchase dates, categories, shopping lists and notes you add.
  • Device token — a push notification token so we can notify household members when someone adds or changes an item.

Camera, photos and microphone

  • Camera / photos — when you scan a receipt or snap a product, the image is sent to Google's Gemini AI to read the items on it. We do not permanently store these images; they are processed to extract item details and then discarded.
  • Microphone (voice search) — when you tap the microphone in the search bar, your device's built-in speech recognition converts your speech to text so you can search your inventory by voice. We do not record, store, or transmit raw audio.

How we use your data

We use your data only to operate the app: to sync your inventory across your household's devices, to send you reminders and household activity notifications, to generate recipe suggestions and read receipts via AI, and to provide customer support when you contact us.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share data only with the service providers required to run the app:

  • Supabase — secure cloud database, authentication and storage (hosted on AWS, Mumbai region) where your account and inventory are stored and synced.
  • Google (Gemini API) — receives receipt/product images and item names to extract products and suggest recipes.
  • Expo — delivers push notifications and over-the-air app updates.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your household account exists. You are in full control:

Delete your account and all data from inside the app: open Home & family → Delete household account (available to household admins). This permanently and irreversibly erases your entire household — every member, item and shopping list — for everyone.

Admins can also remove individual member profiles from Home & family. If you cannot access the app, email us at support@thehomevaultapp.com and we will delete your account and associated data within 30 days. See our account deletion page for full instructions.

Security

Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider. Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. Access to your household data is restricted to your authenticated account.

Children

HomeVault is intended for adults managing a household and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
